Trains in Galveston

To keep with my theme of staying busy while I’m in the US, my daughter and I spent Friday night and Saturday in Galveston. Did you know they had a railroad museum? Neither did I.

It was wiped out by Hurricane Ike in 2008 and lost so much of their stuff, including whole train cars and all of their huge model train display but they’re recovering nicely now. Seeing the photos of the damage was surreal. Train cars tossed around like toys, piles of debris everywhere and all of it soaked with water and sticky mud. I can’t believe they were able to recover any of it, but they did and it looks fantastic.

My girl and I hung out with our very friendly photography group, stayed for lunch and had a great time. We both thought it would be fun to take a real trip in a sleeper car, and enjoyed out little half mile trek on the little red caboose. She took the photo below.

She’s got a great eye and she’s impatient for the day she graduates high school so she can finally get that good camera I’ve promised her.

It’s been really, really nice to spend time with my kids. I can’t believe how grown up they seem after just a couple of months, but I’m really enjoying it.
